AGRICULTURAL PROGRAMS

  • Baker County High School offers 4 different Agricultural programs under the umbrella of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources career cluster.  Each of these programs offer students the opportunity to study how agricultural careers are a vital part of our community and state.  Each of these programs begins with the course Agriscience Foundations which teaches about agricultural history and the glocal impact of agriculture.  Students learn about career opportunities, research concepts, biological, physical and environmental principles, as well as leadership, employability and human relations skills.  These programs teach foundational skills that can be utilized in any career path chosen.

    1. Agriculture Sales and Services -  This program allows students to develop agribusiness skills used in the operation and maintenance of equipment, facilities, handling merchandise and demonstrating positive customer-relations

    2. Agritechnology - helpsstudents develop competencies in prevention and treatment of livestock diseases; livestock anatomy; wholesale cuts of meat; animal reproduction and identification; animal safety; and animal health.

    3. Horticulture - develops student competencies in plant knowledge and growth. Students have hands on experience with growing and selling flowers and vegetables while learning about the various plant structures, fertilizers and how to run a business.

    4. Technology Ag. Operations - This program is more for the student who enjoys working with equipment.  It is designed to develop competencies in safety; use of tools; planning and building projects and construction of agricultural structures.  This may include learning about electrical circuits, plumbing, welding, masonry and small engine repairs.
